Ellen Kathrine Hansen
Architect MAA

As a specialist in sustainable architecture, Ellens work is founded on improving our build environment by knowledge
sharing between disciplinary boundaries and by combining theory and practice.


Ellen is owner of the consultancy Project+. She develops projects, where architecture, energy technology,
environment and the quality of life is in focus. The projects are in the field of defining meaning full strategies for the
build environment through projects, where the knowledge is brought into practice and peoples life.
Main clients are: Danish Architecture Center, Aalborg University, Chalmers University, VELFAC Windows, The VELUX
and Villum Foundations, Harder Communication, Danish Architects Association, Aarhus School of Architecture and
Energy Active, Paris.

Frequent Ellen lectures at national and international universities, seminars and conferences as well as she publish
broadly in journals and as co author in books and articles.

During 9 years Ellen has been employed in the group of the Danish industrial investor VKR Holding. The portfolio
comprises around 150 companies, with a total of approx. 15,000 employees in more than 40 countries. Ellen has been
responsible of interdisciplinary building and research projects based on defining, testing and communicating Active
House, a vision of buildings that ‘give more than they take’. The basis of the project was to realize 8 national and
international buildings, together with the companies VELUX, VELFAC, WindowMaster and Sonnenkraft.

From 1995-2009 Ellen was also a researcher and associate professor at the Aarhus School of Architecture in Denmark.
Ellen has been a pioneer in her research based on the relation between the academic research, teaching and
collaboration with the building industry with special focus on the architectural potentials in daylight and energy
producing technologies as transparent Photo Voltaic.
